ABOUT THE CLIENT

In collaboration with Áltica Design Studio, I was commissioned to design a colorful easel to be used in the DIF Family Health Fair.

DIF is a government organization that works directly with Mexican families to provide them protection and healthcare education, among other services.

Their 2015 program, the DIF Family Health Fair, was an event that traveled along isolated and impoverished communities in the state of Querétaro. The Fair brought them dental services, medical attention and educational games about healthy eating, music and peaceful socializing.

THE OBJECTIVE

This particular piece had to provide a cute, useful tool for children to color educational material inside the Fair. The easel needed to be affordable, easy to install, easy to clean and completely portable.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

I started investigating about simple easels, ergonomical measurements for children and folding furniture. The insights were used to make a simple 3D model and building plans.

Don Cutberto, an accomplished Mexican carpenter, helped me simplify the folding mechanisms and built each easel with great care and quality.

THE FINAL RESULT

In the end, we received a series of lovingly crafted pieces that could be repaired with materials found on any hardware store. It was a sad to see them go on their travel, but they brought a lot of children a fun time at the Health Fair.
